The Galisteo Basin has been the gateway to what is now Santa Fe and Northern New Mexico for 100s if not 1000s of years. It was the home to native people and countless pueblos for at least 1300 years. A prehistoric trade route developed early on, connecting the Pueblo Cultures with those of the Buffalo hunters on the southern plains to the east. The Spanish found their way north through this land over 500 years ago. Since that time little of the landscape has changed, dramatic foothills and mountains surrounding vast open plains. Today this country is comprised of several very large ranches, a single village (Gallisteo) and numerous fine private properties. This property commands the northern flank of the Basin, nearly 2.5 miles in length and bounded by the Galisteo Nature Preserve to the north and a single large ranch to the south. Current use has been seasonal grazing with full perimeter fencing, gated entry, multiple wells and much evidence of prehistoric occupation. 16 miles from Santa Fe.
